Garrett Nussmeier on his younger brother Colton: 'He's going to be unreal'
Before Garrett Nussmeier can really settle in as the LSU starting quarterback, there might be a better player in the family bloodline. Nussmeier’s brother, Colton, is about to enter his junior season at Flower Mound (TX) Marcus and already has double-digit offers. While there is no rating attached to the 2027 product yet, he projects as one of the best in the class.
Garrett was not a bad prospect himself, being a top-100 player and No. 11 quarterback in the 2021 class per the On3 Industry Ranking. But at this point in their careers, Colton may throw a better ball according to his brother. A tough pill to swallow but a big season is ahead of the high schooler.
“I’m really excited for him and the player that he’s going to be,” Garrett Nussmeier said. “He’s going to be unreal. People ask me all the time ‘Who’s better?’ I don’t want to admit it but we’ll see. I know at that age, I couldn’t spin it like him. So, I’m excited for him and his progression and to see him play this fall.”
LSU has not yet offered the younger Nussmeier but multiple local Power Four conference programs have thrown their hat in the ring. Wisconsin was the first but traditional recruiting presences in the state of Texas — Baylor, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, and Texas Tech — have offered. Even Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels have shown interest early on.

The two brothers grew up around football as their father, Doug, is a long-time coach — both at the college levels and in the NFL. Currently, Doug is the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and is working with Jalen Hurts. He was previously with the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers.
So for Garrett and Colton, being able to play high-level football has been a dream. LSU has given the former the opportunity as he enters the 2024 season with high expectations. Now, Colton’s chance is coming in the coming years, something his older brother is incredibly proud of.
“It’s been really, really cool,” Garrett Nussmeier said this week at the Manning Passing Academy. “Ever since we were young, throwing in the yard, we were always doing something, always competing at something. I’m really proud of him. It almost makes me a little emotional. It’s really cool to see him go through it and live out his dream.”
