Geirean Hatchett injury update: Oklahoma OL to miss remainder of 2024 season after bicep surgery
Oklahoma has a laundry list of injuries early in the season, with a lot of them being on the offensive line. Everyone in Norman has been hoping for positive news but on Monday, head coach Brent Venables announced Geirean Hatchett is going to miss the rest of the year due to bicep surgery.
“Brent Venables says on his coach’s show that Geirean Hatchett will miss the rest of the season,” George Stoia of On3’s Sooner Scoop said via X. “He had bicep surgery. He says Nic Anderson will be ready ‘really soon… if not this week, next week.'”
Hatchett is in his first season with the program after transferring in from Washington. He had been playing center for the Sooners in an offensive line that had struggled through two games. Injuries have been a huge reason why and Hatchett missing the entire year certainly will not help.
Venables, along with offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, will have to figure out who Oklahoma’s best five is going forward. Hatchett was thought to be a factor in the equation but bicep surgery will keep him out of the rotation.

Tucked in there is a good update on the wide receiver front, another position Oklahoma appears to be quite thin at. Anderson has been a massive contributor to the offense and is needed with first-year starting quarterback Jackson Arnold out there.

Best case scenario, Anderson plays on Saturday with Tulane coming to town. Worst case, it’s next Saturday against Tennessee — Oklahoma’s opening game in the SEC.
Through two games, the Sooners have thrown for an average of 166 yards. Arnold has not been able to get the ball downfield and raised questions about the offense. Purdue transfer Deion Burks is currently the team’s leading receiver, having eight receptions for 89 yards and three touchdowns.
Getting Anderson back in the lineup should be huge for Oklahoma as another proven commodity will be lining up against SEC defenses quite soon.
