The Pac-12 conference will be down to 10 schools once UCLA and USC‘s move to the Big Ten happens. Their commissioner George Kliavkoff and the conference’s board of directors understand the importance of adding in additional quality teams to replace the ones exiting, but there is no telling when that will happen. During a recent press conference, one reporter attempted to get Kliavkoff to tip his hand in the Pac-12’s possible future expansion, and the commissioner quickly shot down the notion without saying much.

“We’re not going to talk about specific candidates for expansion. I’m not going to get ahead of my board on that. Thank you for the opportunity, though,” said Kliavkoff.

The media member tried to grease the wheels a little bit by highlighting that the Big 12 commissioner recently talked about adding a fourth-time zone. The Big 12 has at least one team playing in the Eastern, Central, and Mountain time zones. The only place they don’t have a team is out west where the Pac-12 has dominion. But that bit of questioning was not enough to get Kilavkoff to talk.

The option of quality teams to poach from lesser conferences is quickly declining. The Big 12 added Cincinnati, Central Florida, BYU, and Houston to replace the departing duo of Texas and Oklahoma. If the Pac-12 wants to remain a top conference in college sports, they will likely need to add more schools sooner rather than later. Too bad Kliavkoff is not tipping his hand on who and when new schools will be added.

In one of the games of the week, Oregon managed to hand UCLA its first loss of the season to take the top spot in this week’s edition.

Very little else in the Pac-12 changed, with the rest of the league order having settled in pretty nicely over the past couple weekends. Let’s take a look.

  1. Colorado

The Buffaloes couldn’t follow up their win against California, falling to Oregon State in a lopsided affair. A home date with Arizona State is the best chance for a second win, with three of the remaining four games after that against ranked opponents.

  1. Arizona State

One game after knocking off Washington, Arizona State returned from its bye and fell on the road at Stanford. The Sun Devils had a chance to climb considerably in this week’s Pac-12 Power Rankings with a win but failed to secure one. Next up is a road trip to Colorado for the right to remain outside of the last-place spot in the rankings…
