Kirby Smart gives no comment on potential suspension for Trevor Etienne, others vs. Clemson
Georgia has several players, including running back Trevor Etienne, who could be suspended for the season opener against Clemson following off-season and off-field issues.
On Monday, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart declined to share who will and will not be available when the Bulldogs face the Tigers on Saturday in Atlanta.
“I don’t really talk about any of the other stuff in regards to any of our players with suspensions,” Kirby Smart said when asked if Trevor Etienne will be available. “But I’m excited about all of the guys that are going to get an opportunity to play at back.”
Etienne transferred to Georgia this offseason after starting his career at Florida. He is the younger brother of former Clemson star running back Travis Etienne, who is now playing in the NFL.

Trevor Etienne is one of several Georgia players who faced off-field issues in the past several months. Back in March he was charged with multiple misdemeanors, including DUI.
The DUI charges have since been dropped, after a plea deal.
“Charges of DUI less safe and DUI under 21 were dismissed while Etienne pled no contest to a reckless driving charge from the early morning March 24 incident and pled guilty to underage possession of alcohol, failure to maintain lane and a window tint violation,” Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald wrote.

Etienne received 12 months of probation and an $852 fine as well as a $45 per month supervision fee. He had to complete a substance abuse evaluation, 40 hours of community service, an alcohol risk reduction program and is subject to random drug and alcohol screenings.
“We’re pleased the evidence didn’t support the DUI charge to begin with,” attorney Kim Stephens, who represented Etienne, told the Athens Banner-Herald. “We’re pleased the Solicitor’s Office saw that and agreed to something that wasn’t a DUI.”
Despite having the DUI charges dropped, Etienne could still be suspended due to the other traffic violations. When asked about the running back rotation for the matchup against Clemson, Smart did not get into specifics.
“Really excited about the backs we’ve got,” he said. “The guys have worked really hard. They continue to grow and get better.”
Saturdays game between the two rivals will kick off at Noon in Atlanta.
