Georgia cruised through the first quarter in a game against Tennessee Tech, then bogged down a bit before the half, finishing the first 30 minutes with a 24-0 lead.

Coach Kirby Smart was happy with the performance overall, though he was less than thrilled with how his team finished things in the two-minute drill before the half.

“I liked the way we started there. Got in rhythm, did some good things,” Smart said on the game’s streaming broadcast. “Got to score touchdowns in the red area and got to execute in situational football there at the end in two minute.”

But quarterback Carson Beck was exceptionally sharp. He completed his first 11 passes in the game before misfiring, and he ended the first half 16-of-22 passing for 155 yards and three touchdowns.

He did not throw an interception.

“Carson does a good job,” Smart said. “We’ve got to be a little more accurate down the field, but he’s done a good job getting the ball out of his hand, putting us in the right plays.”

Beck threw three touchdown passes, connecting with Dillon Bell, Dominic Lovett and Colbie Young to reach the end zone. He was on fire in the early going, through he was a touch off on some deeper routes in the second quarter.

Still, Georgia is getting exactly what it needs out of him.

The first half was also the debut for former Florida transfer Trevor Etienne after he missed the season opener against Clemson for disciplinary reasons. Etienne had four carries for 65 yards and two catches for 14 yards in the first half.

Georgia managed to pile up 250 yards of total offense in the opening half, including 95 on the ground and 155 through the air. Tennessee Tech managed only 52 total yards.
