Upper Marlboro (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star safety Jireh Edwards is beginning a pivotal stretch in his recruitment as he eyes a July commitment.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder has an array of official visits on the docket and his first trip came this weekend as he made his way down to Athens for an OV at Georgia. The Bulldogs held their spring game this weekend and had plenty of intrigue on campus.

Edwards was one of just two official visitors at UGA for the big weekend:

“They were back-to-back national champions,” Edwards previously told On3’s Chad Simmons. “Georgia speaks for itself. Look at the Eagles defensive line and you see how Georgia sends guys to the league.”

The Bulldogs are battling Auburn, Maryland, Texas A&M and Oregon for the elite defensive back. He’s set to log OVs to each of his other finalists across May and June before making his commitment ahead of his senior season.

“It will be one of those five schools when I commit,” Edwards said. “It is a tight race with those schools and I still have a lot to see. Each school has a lot of what I am looking for.”

For UGA, defensive backs coaches Travaris Robinson and Donte Williams are leading the charge alongside head coach Kirby Smart. The Dawgs have long been in good standing with the blue-chipper and had a chance to make a major in-person splash this weekend.

Edwards is the No. 48 overall prospect and No. 4 safety in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 player in Maryland.

UGA now has six commits in its 2026 class, which now ranks No. 20 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Four four-star recruits are in the mix to date.

Tustin (Calif.) Mission Viejo four-star wide receiver Vance Spafford is the top-ranked commit in the class, checking in as the No. 73 recruit and No. 10 receiver in the cycle. He’s one of two receivers in the class, alongside Cartersville (Ga.) three-star Brady Marchese, who pledged last month.

Marietta (Ga.) Sprayberry three-star safety Kealan Jones is the newest addition to the class as he pledged on Saturday. He’s the No. 39 safety in the cycle.

Saline (Mich.) four-star tight end Lincoln Keyes pledged back in November and is now the No. 256 prospect and No. 14 TE in the cycle. Long Beach, Calif. native and IMG Academy (Fla.) four-star safety Zech Fort, a high school teammate of Kolojay, is the No. 9 safety in the cycle. In-state JUCO defensive lineman Seven Cloud rounds out the pledge list.
