Paul Finebaum evaluates how Ohio State stacks up with Georgia, Michigan
Paul Finebuam is of the mind that Georgia and Michigan are the best two teams, but Ohio State is mighty close to that top tier.
Ohio State has the strength of schedule argument, when you look at the College Football Playoff projections. Heck, Finebaum doesn’t think much of the Wolverines’ schedule, but it’s had to argue with how good they are at the moment.
All in all, the best three teams are Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State and then it’s the next tier.
“Well, I feel like Michigan’s is inferior and I might add Ohio State to that and I’m sure when we get into the committee opining tomorrow night, we’ll hear a lot about Ohio State’s schedule,” Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic. “But it does show that they played quality teams where Michigan has not. And Georgia, Greg, I sat there Saturday morning trying to make something out of that game and there wasn’t much to make out of it.
“Because when you consider now that Georgia’s best two wins are against a three loss Kentucky team and a three loss Florida team, I mean, what’s the take from that? And now finally this weekend and next weekend, and the week after that will all change.
Georgia and Michigan are the complete teams and Ohio State just might be as good. However, it remains to be seen.
“But I still feel Georgia has a very complete team as we do with Michigan,” Finebaum said. “I think Ohio State would be, if Georgia and Michigan are 1A and 1B, Ohio State would be maybe 1C, maybe more toward the next line, but after that I think there is a drop off.”

Georgia’s schedule is going to be examined the next four weeks because it includes three ranked opponents in the SEC. Michigan meanwhile, has to play Penn State and Ohio State the rest of the way.
There could be a lot of chaos and there’s certainly room for all three of the teams in the playoff, but a lot would have to happen. Remember, no two-loss team has ever made the playoff.
Could we see a repeat of Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State back in the playoff? There’s a path for it to happen and maybe it should, considering these are Finebaum’s best three teams in the country.
And now, we all eagerly await the first set of CFP rankings and expect these three to be the top dogs, or at least all in the mix.
