According to On3’s Pete Nakos, former Georgia running back Branson Robinson has signed with Georgia State. Robinson spent three seasons in Athens and will not be going too far. Sticking inside the Peach State, the Panthers will be getting somebody with SEC experience. Two years of eligibility remain.

Robinson played in six games last season for Georgia. All of the action was in the early portion of the year, eventually sitting out after suffering an MCL injury. He recorded 73 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. Two of the three scores came against SEC opponents, helping UGA get wins against Kentucky and Mississippi State.

The MCL issue was after missing the entire 2023 campaign due to a ruptured patella tendon. Robinson brought a lot of expectations with him due to an impressive true freshman season, one where Georgia wound up winning the national championship. Back in 2022, Robinson went for 330 yards and three touchdowns with 68 carries — including a near 100-yard performance against Auburn.

“I thought going into, I forget what practice it was he got injured last year, but he was having a very good camp,” head coach Kirby Smart said ahead of the 2024 season. “He looked really good and I remember thinking guy was ready to have a great season, a great camp. Then, he has to go back. You forget the blitz pickups. You forget all the things that he missed out on that he doesn’t get a chance to do. He’ll be doing that now and I know he’s looking forward to it. We’re excited to get him out there.”

The On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings had Robinson as a three-star prospect. He was the No. 346 overall player to enter this cycle and went looking at just running backs, Robinson came in at No. 25 at the position.

Robinson played high school football at Madison (MS) Germantown, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 73 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Georgia State will be hoping Robinson can bounce back from his injuries in a big way. Based on his recruiting ranking and performances in previous seasons, there should still be plenty of untapped potential remaining for the running back. A massive opportunity for both the Panthers and Robinson heading into the 2025 season.
