The Georgia Southern coaching staff has added a member who is well-known in coaching and college football circles, tapping former Florida State and West Virginia quarterback Clint Trickett as its new tight ends and inside receivers coach.

The program announced the news in a press release. Trickett will also be the program’s passing game coordinator.

Trickett has had previous coaching stops at Florida Atlantic and Marshall and has previously been named to On3’s 2022-23 Rising Stars List.

“We are extremely excited to introduce Clint Trickett as our new tight ends/inside receivers coach,” head coach Clay Helton said. “Clint will also serve as our pass game coordinator. Clint is known for his pass game knowledge as both a player and as a coach. He has been in multiple leadership positions in his coaching career and is one of the more talented young coaches in the game today.

“He has seen college football at the highest level and is very well respected for his recruiting success in the Southeast. We will continue to bring in the most sought-after coaches in the country and Clint is a great example of that.”

Clint Trickett spent the last two seasons as Marshall’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

He did an impressive job in 2022, when Marshall had to make a mid-season quarterback change, going to freshman Cam Fancher. Fancher and the Thundering Herd managed to win the last five games of the season, capped by a win over UConn in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Trickett was previously at Florida Atlantic from 2017 to 2020, serving in a few capacities, including as quarterbacks coach, tight ends coach and ultimately as co-offensive coordinator.

He’s looking forward to moving to Georgia Southern.

“I’m fired up for this opportunity to join Coach Helton’s staff at Georgia Southern,” Clint Trickett said in a press release. “Coach Helton has been synonymous with top offenses everywhere he’s been, and I’m excited to work under him and Coach Ryan Aplin. I know the tremendous pride and traditions of this program run deep, and I am honored to be able to get this program back to the championship level that Eagle Nation is accustomed to.”
