Georgia spring ball review: All-First-Off-The-Bus Team
As spring workouts and spring practices kicked off around Georgia, I saw myself on the road seeing lots of football players.
In the month (and change) of this journey, I saw around 30 high schools. There was plenty of recruiting news and notes throughout the month.
Watching some of these players workout, practice and play brought about the thought of the old ‘he looks good getting off the bus’ saying.
If I were to put myself in a position to build a team and trot those players off the bus in view of my opposition, to strike some doubt or any intimidation I could find this is the group of players that would fit that bill.
Here is my All-First-Off-The-Bus team from spring football in the state of Georgia.
5-star EDGE Eddrick Houston
In a powerhouse like Buford, many players look like college-level prospects. Eddrick Houston is rarely one that people have to ask ‘what number is he?’. He just stands out.
Houston has been blessed with a 6-foot-3, 255-pound frame. Houston looks like a major college player as a rising senior in high school. He’s the No. 15 overall prospect in the On3 Industry rankings in the class of 2024.
4-star DL Justin Greene
Justin Greene looks the part out of pads. Greene is 6-foot-4 and some change. He weighs right at 260 pounds. Once the pads get on he’s a disrupter from the three-technique, five-technique, seven-technique, or wherever else you put him.
He’s consistently one of the most active people on the field during practice.
4-star OL Daniel Calhoun
Roswell (Ga.) Walton four-star offensive tackle Daniel Calhoun’s size speaks for itself. Calhoun is a 6-foot-7, 360-pound lineman. He’s physically imposing and physical. At any point in time, he can send shockwaves through a defender and plant them.
4-star TE Walter Matthews
Walking into the stadium on Friday Walter Matthews towered over his teammates. The tight end stands 6-foot-7, 245 pounds. He’s a perfect fit for this list.
5-star LB Sammy Brown
Jefferson five start linebacker Sammy Brown walks into a football stadium or a weight room with a grin. The things that take place afterward make him intimidating.
Brown has the school record 405-pound power clean to his name.
Brown also hold multiple state championships in wrestling, moonlights as a professional bass fisherman, runs 10.88 in the 100 meter and 22.09 all at 6-foot-3 235 pounds.
2026 DL Daverin ‘Duece’ Geralds
We have reached our first underclassman. Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill’s Duece Geralds was a dominant player as a freshman in 2022.
Rolling up on him during this spring brought about a bit of a surprise in his appearance. Geralds has added nearly 20 pounds in size. He’s grown more physical and aggressive than he was in 2022.
2026 QB Julian Lewis
A quarterback? I’m sure that’s what you asked. Carrollton’s Julian Lewis can do it all. He walks off the bus with a calm, laid-back demeanor.

Bryce Underwood
Michigan flips No. 1 QB Bryce Underwood from LSU
Lewis then grabs a football and does whatever he wants to with it. He regularly makes difficult throws look routine. He’s a talented ball-handler, which sounds like a basketball reference until he runs and RPO and casually flips the ball behind his back to an open receiver in the endzone.
No matter what is happening, Lewis’ demeanor doesn’t change in a football setting. Intimidating stuff.
2025 4-star QB Antwann Hill Jr.
Another quarterback? Houston County’s Antwann Hill presents a different type of intimidation. He gets off the bus standing 6-foot-5. Then in warm-ups, he has the ability to casually wind up and launch the pill 70 yards.
No part of the football field is safe when Hill is playing quarterback.
2025 4-star OL Juan Gaston
Westlake’s Juan Gaston stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 330 pounds. His athleticism allows him to causally hit flips and cartwheels.
He’s also become one of the more dominant offensive linemen in the state at a young age.
2026 EDGE Jordan Carter
Douglasville (Ga.) Douglas County edge Jordan Carter looks the part in warmups. He’s a solid 6-foot-3, around 240 pounds.
He’s also got a relentlessness that you can sense. Multiple times on Thursday, Carter’s helmet came off. He still looked as if he wanted to pursue the play. Carter plays hard and fast. If can’t get to the quarterback, he jumps in the passing lanes.
2025 4-star LB Jadon Perlotte
Buford (Ga.) Jadon Perlotte isn’t afraid of the camera. In warm-ups, he’s bouncing from drill to drill with joy and a grin.
Then when the game starts, it’s his pads you hear the loudest. On film, teams will watch Perlotte and see him coming to lay big hits on whoever he can find.
He’s a very physical player with college linebacker size. Perlotte stands around 6-foot-3 at the moment.
