Georgia Tech receiver Malik Rutherford plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Georgia Tech is set to potentially lose another key piece, with wide receiver Malik Rutherford planning to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Rutherford was a redshirt junior in 2024, having a significant impact for the resurgent Yellow Jackets. He recorded 59 catches for 670 yards and three touchdowns during the season.
A multi-year starter, Rutherford will offer teams some instant firepower at the receiver position.
Prior to his breakout 2024 campaign, Malik Rutherford was quite productive as a redshirt sophomore in 2023. He finished that season with 46 catches for 502 yards and four touchdowns. He ranked second on the team in both receptions and receiving yards.
He even contributed some as a redshirt freshman in 2022, tallying 23 catches for 225 yards.
Malik Rutherford has even added rushing out of the backfield to his arsenal as he’s grown more confident in the entire operation of the offense. He logged eight carries for 58 yards in 2024.

In total, Rutherford has racked up 133 career catches for 1,459 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s also recorded 12 runs for 79 yards.
Georgia Tech is already reeling from the loss of a couple other receivers, including star Eric Singleton, one of the top-rated players available in the NCAA transfer portal.
Singleton has tallied 104 catches for 1,468 yards and nine touchdowns in the past two seasons.
As for Malik Rutherford, he was originally ranked as a three-star prospect out of high school. He checked in as the No. 648 overall player in the nation in the 2021 class, the No. 98 receiver in his class and the No. 84 overall player from the state of Florida, hailing from Hialeah (FL) Champagnat Catholic.
