It’s UGA vs. Bevo in the third Top 5 matchup of the 2024 season, as the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs will tangle with the top-ranked Texas Longhorns on Saturday night in Austin (7:30 p.m., ABC).

Georgia is an underdog for the first time in 49 games, as Kirby Smart’s team is looking to spoil Texas’ undefeated record in its first season in the SEC.

Texas with a huge stop

10/19/2024, 11:26:50 PM

Georgia opted not to punt on 4th-and-1 at their own 40-yard line, going for the jugular to end the game. Instead, Anthony Hill and Texas’ front stoned Trevor Etienne at the line of scrimmage to take possession trailing by 15 with just over two minutes remaining.

Carson Beck with a clutch scramble

10/19/2024, 11:18:52 PM

Facing 3rd-and-4, Carson Beck extended the drive with a nifty scramble to keep the clock churning just inside 3:01 left in the fourth quarter.

More controversial officiating

10/19/2024, 11:13:21 PM

Georgia lost its second starting defensive back of the night due to targeting. In what looked like a classic, face-in-chest, run-through-stop by nickel Joenel Aguero was ruled targeting upon review.

Another strip-sack for UGA

10/19/2024, 11:00:38 PM

The Bulldogs recorded their third sack-fumble on the night, as Mykell Williams, who is finally healthy after getting injured in the opener against Clemson, beat Kelvin Banks for a crucial stop on fourth down.

The Bulldogs now have seven sacks, 10 tackles for loss and have held the Longhorns to 0-10 on third down.

Dawgs extend their lead

10/19/2024, 10:46:48 PM

Georgia capped an impressive 11-play, 89-yard drive with Trevor Etienne’s third touchdown of the night. It was an impressive response by the Bulldogs with Texas holding all the momentum and the stadium rocking. Georgia now up 30-15 with 12:04 left in the fourth quarter.

Facing a 3rd-and-10 deep in its own territory, Carson Beck found Arian Smith for a 21-yard gain. On the very next play, Mike Bobo dialed up a double-reverse flea flicker that went to a wide-open Oscar Delp for 43 yards.

Longhorns score again

10/19/2024, 10:29:22 PM

Texas turned the reversal-INT into immediate points, as Quinn Ewers found tailback Jaydon Blue on an arrow route for a touchdown. Georgia’s lead is down to 23-15.

Texas INT stands

10/19/2024, 10:26:41 PM

In the most controversial moment of the night, Carson Beck tossed this third interception of the game only for officials to initially negate the pick with a penalty. But after Texas fans peppered the field with bottles, officials overturned their calling, giving Jahdae Brown his second pick of the day and the Longhorns 1st-and-goal.

Georgia gets 4th down stop

10/19/2024, 10:15:12 PM

With Texas finding some offensive rhythm, the Bulldogs shut the door on a potential scoring drive at their 30-yard line with a big 4th-down pass breakup by Julian Humphrey. The Longhorns had been targeting the sophomore throughout the second half, but Humphrey nearly had a pick on some sticky coverage of Isaiah Bond.

‘Horns are cooking

10/19/2024, 10:09:33 PM

After forcing Georgia to punt, Texas was pinned inside its own 5-yard line, but Quinn Ewers hit Matthew Golden for a 35-yard gain. On the very next play, Wisner had a 10-yard run — his longest play of the night.

Using all sorts of motion and eye-candy, Texas’ offense is starting to cook.

Texas is on the board

10/19/2024, 9:53:53 PM

Aided by a couple UGA penalties (a facemask and pass interference), the Longhorns remain alive with a short touchdown toss to Isaiah Bond. Texas got the 2-point conversion, too, cutting the lead to 23-8.

The biggest play of the drive was a 24-yard pass across the middle to Matthew Golden.

Quinn Ewers back at QB

10/19/2024, 9:52:05 PM

The Longhorns open the second half with starter Quinn Ewers back at quarterback. They were stopped short on 3rd-and-4 but Steve Sarkisian dialed up a end-around to speedy freshman Ryan Wingo to extend the drive.

Another UGA strip-sack

10/19/2024, 9:25:10 PM

After Arch Manning ripped off a 21-yard run, Georgia’s defense sacked the Texas quarterback two more times including a strip-sack by Damon Wilson to setup the Bulldogs in field goal position with 20 seconds before halftime. The Bulldogs drilled a 44-yard kick to give them a 23-0 lead at halftime.

Texas has allowed five sacks and has just 38 yards at halftime. Head coach Steve Sarkisian said he put Manning into the game with the hopes to provide the offense “a spark.”

Texas gets stops

10/19/2024, 9:22:52 PM

The Longhorns got a big stop on 3rd-and-1, stoning Trevor Etienne for no-gain for a chance to get some points just before halftime. Quinn Ewers remains on the sideline, as Arch Manning is back on the field.

Arch Manning replaces Ewers

10/19/2024, 9:08:15 PM

Down 20-0, Steve Sarkisian has benched starting quarterback Quinn Ewers in favor of redshirt freshman Arch Manning. The Bulldogs pressured Manning twice on his first two throws, but a facemask negated a sack and kept Texas’ drive alive.

Dawgs are owning the LOS

10/19/2024, 8:57:16 PM

Jalon Walker is giving Kelvin Banks, a likely Top 5 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, fits, recording his second sack tonight. The Longhorns went 3-and-out for the third time and still haven’t converted a third down (0-6).

Trevor Etienne to the house

10/19/2024, 8:50:49 PM

Three plays after UGA picked off Ewers, Trevor Etienne scooted 18 yards for his second touchdown of the game to give Georgia a 17-0 lead.

Despite two Carson Beck picks (and just 78 yards passing), Georgia has out-gained Texas 132-19.

UGA picks off Ewers

10/19/2024, 8:48:24 PM

Daylen Everette’s big first half continues, as the Georgia corner intercepted Quinn Ewers on a 3rd-and-7 pass inside Texas’s 35-yard line. The Longhorns are now 0-5 on third down with two turnovers.

Dawgs tack on FG

10/19/2024, 8:42:31 PM

Handed excellent field possession by their defense and special teams (Anthony Evans had a 19-yard punt return), the Bulldogs’ drive quickly stalled inside the 20-yard-line and they were forced to settle for a short field goal to take a 10-0 lead. Texas entered the game with the No. 2 red zone defense in the country.

Texas’ OL having issues

10/19/2024, 8:36:22 PM

Quinn Ewers is under constant duress, as Texas goes 3-and-out following a Jalon Walker sack just outside the end zone for a near safety. The Bulldogs have stoned the Longhorns ground game (just 18 yards) and have sacked Ewers twice.

Dawgs take early lead

10/19/2024, 8:28:13 PM

Georgia hit Texas with some old-school Bulldogs offense, as Trevor Etienne scored on a four-yard toss sweep to give UGA a 7-0 lead in the final seconds of the first quarter. Etienne has been a horse for the Bulldogs, as the Clemson transfer already has 33 yards rushing and 23 yards receiving.

UGA creates huge takeaway

10/19/2024, 8:25:01 PM

The Bulldogs sent the house on a delayed blitz, as corner Daylen Everette drilled Quinn Ewers on a blindside sack to force the fumble. After the ball rattled around, Everette ended up making the recovery, too.

Another Carson Beck INT

10/19/2024, 8:17:14 PM

After throwing a wayward pass that Texas dropped, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck did indeed throw another interception — this time taking away potential points for the Bulldogs, who were deep in Texas’ red zone. Beck was inaccurate on a high slant to tight end Lawson Luckie, who got his hands on the ball but tipped it to Longhorns safety Jahdae Barron.

Beck now has seven picks this season. He had six all of 2023.

Texas nabs a takeaway

10/19/2024, 8:04:45 PM

In another huge game, Carson Beck throws another bad interception. Clemson transfer safety Andrew Mukuba made a great juggling catch to give the Longhorns the football inside Georgia’s 40-yard line.

Georgia’s defense didn’t bit on a crazy double-reverse flea flicker and forced a 3-and-out to negate the turnover.

Georgia, Texas trade punts

10/19/2024, 7:58:39 PM

Both defenses got stops on the initial team’ possessions. Carson Beck and the Bulldogs will take over just inside their 20-yard-line coming out of the commercial.
