Four-star PF Gevonte Ware talks Nebraska, Mississippi State, Texas A&M
Gevonte Ware is the No. 62 player in the 2025 On3 75. The 6-foot-9 power forward that plays for Charlotte (NC) 1 of 1 Academy has become a common name among college coaches during the June Scholastic Live Evaluation Periods.
“I rebound and am aggressive in the paint,” Ware told On3. “I can make a play with the ball, push the break. I’m playing a lot more aggressively, and that has helped my numbers. I watch a lot of Julius Randle, how he plays.”
On3 caught up with Gevonte Ware after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.
Ware talks recruitment
“I’m hearing a lot from Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Mississippi State,” Ware said.
Nebraska: “The coaches are in contact a lot, I hear from all of them. I know they’re in the Big Ten. They like my game, they think my versatility fits in with how they want to play. They’re a good program.”
Texas A&M: “We haven’t really talked basketball and their program yet. They call and text a lot, and they check in with how I’m doing, my games, how I’m playing. We just have regular conversations. They got a real family atmosphere over there; that’s what they talk about with me. They make sure their players are good and have everything they need.”
Mississippi State: “Their weight room training has been impressive. How he is always with the guys, and the way they do with the nutrition and stuff like that. They work hard over there, and they’re like a family.”

“Illinois is in contact a lot,” Ware said. “We’ll see what they do. It’s a lot of schools talking to me right now, to be honest.”
Illinois: “I talk with Coach Chester (Frazier). He stays on me about my rebounding, he likes how I rebound. He wants me to keep working, and he is going to keep coming to watch me play.”
In Ware’s words
“I’m going to be looking for a program that treats me right and appreciates me for who I am and how my game is,” Ware said. “I want to get a good education, of course, and go somewhere they treat my family right. My mom is a big part of everything I do, so they’re going to need to treat my mom right, too.
“I want to play in a system that gives their four men some freedom, the trust to make a play or push the ball up the floor. I’m going to start taking visits, probably in September.”
