Grad Transfer Sean McNeil heard from 20 high majors on night one
Texas, Ohio State, Indiana, Clemson, SMU, and Virginia are among the 20-plus programs to reach out to West Virginia grad transfer Sean McNeil within hours of putting his name in the portal.
Shooters come at a premium in today’s game. On Monday, one of the Big-12’s best shooters put his name in the portal. Sean McNeil knocked down 37-percent of his 155 three-point attempts last season.
The shooting guard from Union (KY) Cooper High, by way of Sinclair Community College, is a 6-foot-3 grad transfer. McNeil finished top 15 in the Big-12 in points per game (12.2), three-pointers made (57), and true shooting percentage (.542).
On3 caught up with Sean McNeil to see which school he had heard from less than eight hours after putting his name in the portal.
“Some of them so far have been Nebraska, Clemson, Iowa State, Texas, Louisville, Indiana, Cincinnati, Maryland, TCU, Arizona State, Pittsburgh, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Creighton, Ohio State, Virginia, Wake Forest, SMU,” McNeil said.

After graduating from Cooper High, McNeil enrolled, as a full qualifier, at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. In his lone season at Sinclair, he averaged 29.7 points and shot 43.1-percent from three in 31 games. Along with West Virginia, McNeil picked up offers from Texas Tech, Oregon, Dayton, Kansas State, Missouri, TCU, etc.
McNeil played at West Virginia for three seasons, where he totaled 900 points and a career 37-percent from three. This will be the grad transfer’s first D-I transfer and will be eligible immediately.
