Grayson McCall injury update: NC State QB ruled out for rest of game vs. Louisiana Tech
NC State was looking to bounce back against Louisiana Tech in Raleigh on Saturday, but it’s been a disaster for the Wolfpack, as they currently trail the Bulldogs, and quarterback Grayson McCall has been ruled out for the remainder of the game with an injury.
“Grayson McCall is out for the remainder of this game due to injury,” Ethan McDowell of The Wolfpacker posted on X.
With McCall out, CJ Bailey has taken the reins as QB1. The Wolfpack are certainly missing McCall on offense though, as he was their leading passer and rusher in the first half at the time of his injury.
Earlier in his football career, McCall led Coastal Carolina to a standout 11-1 season in his first year under center for Coastal Carolina. He went on to be one of the most efficient and decorated quarterbacks in college football, amassing three Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year awards to his name and over 10,000 yards of total offense and 100 touchdowns in his career. Many believed he had the potential to apparently be the next great quarterback for the Wolfpack.

“The offense is what held them back last year, the quarterback position in particular, and I think Grayson McCall going to NC State is one of the least talked about giant transfers in the country,” Roddy Jones of the ACC Network said earlier this offseason, regarding McCall. “And this a guy that was an absolute baller at Coastal Carolina, multi-time player of the year in that conference. I mean he captured our hearts and minds, that team did a few years ago in 2020.”

“And I don’t want to be hyperbolic here, but it feels like he’s got a shot to be the best quarterback Russell Wilson and they’ve had some good ones. Ben Finley was good, Jacoby Brissett was good, Devin Leary gave them some good years. But Grayson McCall’s a dude.
“So you pair him with Kevin Concepcion who was basically that offense last year. Jordan Waters who’s a really good running back from Duke, transfers over as well. And as you said, there’s always money on that defense.”
Perhaps Grayson McCall can still make good on those lofty expectations, but a drubbing last weekend at the hands of Tennessee, following by an injury in Week 3, doesn’t exactly have morale and confidence in Raleigh at an all-time high. We’ll see if the veteran quarterback can turn it around with NC State moving forward.
