College football expert Greg McElroy has broken down the 2023 college football schedule, looking for the best games of each weekend. As the season hits full swing, Week 4, McElroy has deemed the Bowden Bowl, Florida State Seminoles versus the Clemson Tigers, the ultimate game for that week.
“We’ll head to Clemson, SC, to watch Florida State and Clemson. We’ve already talked about what Florida State might be this year,” said McElroy. “But we haven’t talked about is what Clemson might be. Cade Klubnik is back in the mix as the starting quarterback. Garrett Riley, formerly of TCU, new OC bringing new life, new energy, new tempo, and all these other things to the Clemson Tigers offense. We know they’re gonna be good on defense; they’ve been good on defense for a while now. But the offensive firepower for Clemson has not been where it needs to be. And I’m hopeful that maybe Clemson can bounce back.”
The gap between Clemson and the rest of the ACC decreased substantially. Still, the Tigers were still able to reign supreme over the conference finishing the year 8-0 and as ACC champs.
Clemson was tested by Florida State and a few others, but all three of their losses on the season came out of conference. A lot of that blame falls on the shoulders of their once-dominating offense.
“Either way, that offense has not been the same these last couple of years. Maybe they can get back on track. They’re gonna need it against a team in Florida State that has probably had this one circled for the better part of a calendar year.”

There was another game that came close to topping The Bowden Bowl, as McElroy also explained. But that game was disqualified for reasons the college football expert would go on to explain.
“Remember, we can’t go to another stadium (twice). We can’t go and see a team in their home venue yet again. And remember Week 0, we chose Navy at Notre Dame. I know it’s in Dublin, but that is technically a Notre Dame home game. So Week 4 eliminates Ohio State at Notre Dame. I wish that that game was still available. If you look at the slim pickins’ that is Week 0, you’ll understand why we kind of had to go in this direction.”
McElroy does have a few rules for his ultimate game list. This is actually a road trip-style format. So because of that, the college football expert has put a limit of one home game per team. Unfortunately for Notre Dame, who appeared on the list in Week 0, their match-up against Navy will be a defacto home game for them.
