Greg McElroy ranks Texas college football teams heading into 2022
While taking mailbag questions for his show Always College Football, analyst Greg McElroy was asked to rank the Texas college teams ahead of the 2022 season. He did so, placing all 12 FBS teams from the state of Texas.
Here are Greg McElroy’s rankings of teams in Texas for 2022:
“I think 10 teams from the state of Texas will go bowling,” Greg McElroy said. “Feel pretty good about that.”
Greg McElroy then went on to say that he feels Houston is the only team with a legitimate chance to win 10 or 11 games. Texas A&M, he feels is more realistically a 9-3 or 8-4 team. Everyone else slides down the scale from there.

“There’s a lot of good teams from the state of Texas, right now. To think that 10 of 12 could ultimately get to the postseason says all you need to know about the Lone Star State and how quality the football is right now,” finished Greg McElroy.
The Houston Cougars being the top team in the state of Texas might be a surprise to many people. Now, in their last season as an AAC member before moving to the Big 12, the Cougars are positioned to go to a New Year’s Six Bowl. They played for the AAC Championship in 2021 and return most of their key players while the Cincinnati Bearcats are reloading. So, they have an opportunity to make a statement.
