Greg McElroy very excited to see Texas at Texas A&M in 2024
The 2024 SEC football schedule has been a huge talking point ever since it was released just recently. With Texas and Oklahoma coming over, plus a completely new scheduling model being implemented, the 2024 slate is the most fascinating conference schedule in years. ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy has been breaking down the schedule and has handpicked five games he sees as the best.
His second favorite game of the entire SEC schedule in 2024? It’s an old Big 12 rivalry that’s about to break ground in the SEC.
“You look at No. 2: Texas going to Texas A&M,” said McElroy. “You look at the animosity that already exists in this rivalry and now the Aggies get to host the Longhorns. They’re on what should be a primetime event seen around the world. There’s no love lost in that rivalry. Those two programs hate each other more than just about anybody.”
There will certainly be a lot of hype surrounding the return of the ‘Horns vs. the Aggies, especially since it’s in College Station. After a dozen-year drought, fans from both sides are chomping at the bit to engage in battle once again.

McElroy reveals No. 1 matchup he’s looking forward to
“No. 1: Alabama is hosting the Georgia Bulldogs,” shared McElroy, explaining, obviously, that these two programs are still 1A and 1B when it comes to the SEC.
“Now, you look at these two programs, and arguably over the last seven or eight years, you can make a case as the top two programs, along with Ohio State, along with a few others in college football. Now, Alabama gets to host Georgia. They’re in Bryant-Denny for the first time in a while. It should be an incredible matchup between two of the best in the sport.”
Because of the bizarre scheduling model with the divisions, SEC schools would regularly go a decade or more without visiting each other’s home stadiums. For instance, Georgia has still not played Texas A&M in College Station yet, even though the Aggies joined the league 11 years ago. So a Georgia game in Brant-Denny Stadium has not been a very common occurrence and has only happened once in the last 15 seasons.
Under the new model, whatever it ends up being, Georgia will visit Alabama much more often.
