Gus Malzahn will be coaching on crutches for the rest of the season after he suffered an injury during the UCF-Tulane game on Saturday.

While leading the Knights to a 14-10 victory over the Green Wave, Gus Malzahn fractured his tibia. The prognosis is six weeks on crutches.

The first-year UCF head coach was celebrating a score and jumped up to bump one of his players.

The former Auburn Tigers head coach said after the game that it was embarrassing and that he’d be fine.

The Knights are 6-3 on the season so far. They take a three-game winning streak into Week 11 action versus SMU. The Mustangs have a two-game losing streak after starting the year undefeated.

Gus Malzahn and his squad are already bowl eligible with six wins on the season. They could play the Virginia Cavaliers in the Military Bowl, if projections hold true through the end of the year.

The UCF offense ranks No. 38 in the nation through Week 10 with 32.4 points per game. Defensively, the Knights trail at No. 58. However, 24 points per game allowed is good for fourth in the AAC. All American conference teams currently trail undefeated Cincinnati, which ranks No. 2 in the AP Top 25.

Sam Pittman shares bizarre injury

In other D-I football head coach injury news, Arkansas skipper Sam Pittman shared a bizarre injury tale on Monday.

The Razorbacks clinched bowl eligibility on Saturday with their win over Mississippi State. However, Pittman hesitated to pick up the bowling ball in the post-game celebration. Apparently, Pittman didn’t want to aggravate a bicep injury he once suffered at Georgia.

According to the second-year Razorback head coach, he tore the bicep while trying to pick up his bulldog Lucy for one of his famous “Yessir” recruiting videos.
