Harold Perkins injury update: Brian Kelly confirms timeline, offers more details on LSU star
LSU head coach Brian Kelly confirmed during his press conference on Monday that star linebacker Harold Perkins is out for the season with an ACL injury suffered in Saturday’s win over UCLA.
The loss is a big one for the Tigers as Perkins is one of the top linebackers in all of college football.

At the time of his press conference, Kelly didn’t have a lot of details as far as what’s next for the junior.
“Obviously the one thing that we’re not excited about is the injury that a lot of you saw that was out there on social media. Harold Perkins will be lost for the season with a significant knee injury,” Brian Kelly said. “We’re not certain about the specifics relative to time and place for surgery but looks to be an ACL injury. And again, more details relative to that I can’t get into right now.”
Harold Perkins was injured during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 34-17 win over UCLA. The New Orleans native suffered the injury while lowering his shoulder to make a tackle.
Kelly feels that LSU will be OK moving forward, but he feels awful for Perkins.

“Certainly an injury that we feel terrible about, especially for Harold and the work that he’s done to put himself in a great position,” Kelly said. “Look, you lose players all the time. You just feel terrible for them individually, because of all the work and time they put in. We’ll have somebody else step up, like we have this year, right.”

Unfortunately for LSU, losing Harold Perkins isn’t the only major injury the Tigers have dealt with already in 2024. Veteran defensive lineman Jacobian Guillory suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2 against Nicholls, while running back John Emery suffered a torn ACL ahead of LSU’s Week 2 matchup.
Kelly is confident the Tigers can make up for the loss of Perkins, too, just like they did with Guillory and Emery.
“We lose Jacobian [Guillory] and that was a tough loss for us. But a true freshman Ahmad Breaux comes in, does a great job for us the last three weeks and plays great football for us,” Kelly said. “You know we lose John Emery, another true freshman comes in in Caden Durham, does a great job for us. And similarly we’ll have somebody step in here, as well.
“And the next man in will come in and rally and put us in a position where we have success, as well. So these are difficult but we’ve got really good players that have come in and stepped in and filled in for LSU and move forward.”
