Harvard’s Chisom Okpara has entered his name into the transfer portal per On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Okpara has spent the past two seasons with the Crimson as one of their leading contributors, especially as a sophomore this last year. Now, he’ll be on to a new school with the decision on his entry.

Okpara appeared in 54 games for Harvard with 24 being starts last season. He has averaged 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 48.3% from the field and 33.3% from three in his career.

As a sophomore, Okpara was the Most Improved Player for the program. He increased his production to 16.5 points, five boards, and two assists in 26 games. He also led the team in blocks at 0.7 per game while being second in points and assists along with third in rebounds and steals.

Okpara played high school basketball at La Lumiere School. He was a three-star prospect and the No. 183 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranked as a Top-50 SF and a Top-10 player out of Indiana.

Okpara is the fourth transfer to leave Harvard in the portal this offseason. He joins Malik Mack (Georgetown) as well as Justice Ajogbor and Matt Filipowski, the twin brother of Duke’s Kyle Filipowski. Mack, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and an All-Ivy Honorable Mention, was another significant loss at 17.2 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.3 steals, all of which were team leads.

To this point, Harvard has not made any transfer additions.

As a true freshman this season, Mack averaged 17.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists on a 41% field-goal percentage. He scored in double figures in all but three games as a true freshman. The least he ever scored in those matchups was eight points while he managed to score 20 or more on eight separate occasions.

He set a Harvard program record for the most points (413) scored in a single season by a first-year player at the school and logged the third-highest points per game average among first-year Division I players.

Mack ranked first in the Ivy League in assists per game, third in points, third in free throw percentage (81.3), fourth in minutes per game (33.4) and sixth in steals per game (1.3). He led Harvard in all of those categories.

Now, Mack brings his talents to the Big East where he’ll look to lead Georgetown to its first winning record since the 2018-19 season. The Hoyas are 22-73 over the past three seasons and securing a commitment from Mack feels like a big-time move in the right direction for Ed Cooley heading into year two of his tenure.
