Hawaii will honor late quarterback Colt Brennan when it takes the field on Saturday against UCLA. Each Hawaii player will wear a special helmet decal to honor Brennan. Brennan passed away in May and played for Hawaii from 2005-2007.

Hawaii’s former star quarterback passed away in May at just 37 years old. Every player will have a decal with Brennan’s number 15 on his helmet against UCLA, according to Andrew Lind of Sportslogos.net.

“It’s all in the details,” Hawaii Football tweeted on Friday.

Brennan had an electric collegiate career at Hawaii

Despite playing in just three seasons with Hawaii, Brennan left as one of college football’s most productive quarterbacks. In 2005, Brennan completed 68 percent of his passes with 4,301 yards, 37 total touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Brennan finished sixth in Heisman voting in 2006 after accounting for 5,549 yards, 63 total touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He was still impressive as a senior in 2007, with 4,343 yards, 46 total touchdowns and 17 interceptions, finishing third in Heisman voting.

In his career, Brennan completed 1,115 of his 1,584 pass attempts, an impressive 70.4 percent. He threw for 14,193 yards, 131 touchdowns and 42 interceptions. He also had 547 yards and 15 touchdowns rushing.

While at Hawaii, Brennan broke or tied 31 NCAA records. One of these records was his unheard of 58 touchdown passes in a single season, per Lind. Following his electric collegiate career, Brennan was selected in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft by Washington. He then suffered a major, season-ending injury, and he wasn’t able to find his footing in the NFL from there. Brennan never appeared in an NFL game.

After his time in the NFL, Brennan made appearances in the United Football League, Canadian Football League, and Arena Football League.

In Brennan’s final season at Hawaii, he led them to a 12-1 season and finished the year ranked 19th in the AP poll. Hawaii has not finished a season as a ranked team since then. Since that year, Hawaii has finished above .500 just four times.

Hawaii begins their 2021 season against UCLA Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. When they do so, they will be honoring the life of their former star quarterback.
