Florida State vs. Georgia Tech Preview | Latest Intel on Recruiting & More

Haynes King isn’t afraid of the Seminoles. On Thursday, the Georgia Tech quarterback revealed his confidence level ahead of the Yellow Jackets’ season-opening showdown against Florida State.

“We feel confident,” King said. “We’re playing fast right now, doing everything what that we need to do.”

King has reason to be confident in his abilities. In the 2023 campaign, King tallied 2,842 yards and 27 touchdowns through the air while rushing for 737 yards and 10 scores, as well.

King was one of only two Power Five quarterbacks with at least 2,800 passing yards, 25 touchdown passes, 700 rushing yards and 10 touchdown runs in 2023. The other talented QB? Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.

King is far from the only talented player who returned to Georgia Tech this offseason. The team also retained leading receivers Eric Singleton Jr. and Malik Rutherford, along with tight end Brett Seithe.

Despite Haynes King’s confidence, Florida State has history on its side. The Seminoles boast a 15-11-1 all-time record against the Yellow Jackets, most recently defeating them 41-16 in 2022.

Evidently, oddsmakers expect Florida State to add another tally to its historic win column on Saturday. According to FanDuel, the Seminoles are 11.5-point favorites against Georgia Tech. Moreover, they are a massive -520 moneyline favorite.

Mike Norvell praises FSU quarterback DJ Uiagalelei

After all, Georgia Tech isn’t the only team with a talented starting quarterback. On Friday, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell raved about his starting quarterback.

“I couldn’t ask for anything more from what he’s done from January when he arrived to now,” Norvell said. “A lot of people think all the focus goes on the field. And yes, he’s done that — his preparation, his work. But I mean, I think equally as important, is the work that he’s invested for these guys off the field. Who he is — being genuine, true, open.

“He’s not here just to play a position. He’s here to be a great teammate. His humility, it shines through every day. He’s very confident in what he does. He’s very confident and understands the responsibility of a position. But, he cares about who he gets to do it with, and that’s something that’s that’s important to this program. The relationships are, are critical, and I think that’s probably one of the underlying qualities of him.”

King and Uiagalelei won’t have to wait much longer to show off their skills. Georgia Tech and FSU will square off at noon ET on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
