Heather Dinich on Ohio State no. 1 ranking: 'I wouldn't get too comfortable'
The first College Football Playoff top 25 rankings were just revealed, and the Ohio State Buckeyes find themselves in the top spot over the back-to-back defending national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Buckeyes coming in at No. 1 might have surprised some, but their strength of schedule is the best in the nation, and they do have wins over two programs in the top 15 — The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Georgia currently sits at No. 2. And this is likely the result of the Bulldogs still waiting to pick up their first signature win of this season. Quite a few college football experts have suggested that this is a down year for the SEC, which likely has an impact on the Bulldogs’ ranking. However, ESPN college football expert Heather Dinich weighed in on the matter, pushing back on the notion that the conference that has won the last four titles is in a very good spot.
“For all the first half of this season about how it might be a little bit of a down year for the SEC, with Ole Miss at No. 10, they’ve got three top ten teams,” said Dinich. “They are right where they usually are, and that’s at the top of college football.”
The SEC stands alone in the initial rankings with three top 10 ranked teams, with the Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 8. They are also home to the highest-ranked two-loss team at No. 13, the LSU Tigers. And, not to mention, if this ranking was a year later, the SEC would be home to five teams ranked in the top 10 as they are set to add the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners following this season.

Dinich outlined all of that to send a warning to the team that sits atop the College Football Playoff rankings in Week 10 — Ohio State. And that message was crystal clear, ‘I wouldn’t get too comfortable.’
“And when you look at the rest of Georgia’s schedule over the next three weeks, three straight ranked opponents. I wouldn’t get too comfortable if I was an Ohio State Buckeye at the top.”
Ohio State still has the chance to add another quality win to its resume. The Buckeyes still have the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines to end the season, with the winner likely earning the right to represent the Big Ten East in the conference title game.
