The race for the 2021 season Heisman Trophy is heating up and the top of the leader board has narrowed after Week 6.

Alabama sophomore QB Bryce Young still has the best odds through six weeks at +185 but the distance between him and Ole Miss’s dual-threat Matt Corral has shortened.

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud is also inching closer to the top of the odds chart, moving from +1800 after Week 5 to +1000 after Week 6. Stroud had an impressive day versus Maryland on Saturday. He threw for 406 yards with a 72% completion rate and five touchdowns.

Running backs Kenneth Walker III and Bijan Robinson are now also very serious competition for Young, Corral and Stroud. Alabama alum Derrick Henry was the last running back to win the Heisman in 2015 but the Michigan State and Texas stars are making a strong case to make 2021 another such year.

Walker posted his second 200+ rushing game of the season on Saturday versus Rutgers, totaling 232 yards and one score in the win. He averaged a whopping eight yards a carry.

Robinson and the Longhorns lost the Red River Rivalry on Saturday but the running back had his fifth 100+ rushing game. He’s fourth in the nation in rushing yards per game and has eight rushing touchdowns.

Despite getting the win on Saturday, OU’s Spencer Rattler took a major hit in the post-Week 6 Heisman odds. Rattler was the favorite to win the trophy at the beginning of the season but he got benched this weekend. He completed 9 of 16 passes for 112 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception against the Longhorns.

Alabama’s Brian Robinson, Liberty’s Malik Willis and Penn State’s Sean Clifford are all newcomers to the Heisman trophy odds boards this week.
