Heisman Trophy Trust reveals four finalists
The four Heisman Trophy finalists for the 2022 season were revealed Monday night on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown. Each of the four candidates will be invited to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, which takes place this Saturday.
Voting ballots for the Heisman Trophy were sent to 870 college football media members, 57 Heisman Trophy winners and one overall fan vote. The trust has recognized finalists since 1982. Before that, only a winner was announced.
Ahead of Saturday, here’s the first look at the Heisman Trophy finalists, the last men standing for college football’s greatest individual award.
2022 Heisman Trophy Finalists
Caleb Williams, Quarterback, USC
The Heisman Trophy race appeared to be all but over following rivalry week, when Williams’ dominant performance in a win over Notre Dame helped USC stay in the thick of the College Football Playoff hunt with one loss. A tight loss in the Pac-12 Championship Game might have left the door ever so slightly cracked. Williams has gone 296-of-448 passing for 4,075 yards, with 37 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He has also added 372 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing.
Max Duggan, Quarterback, TCU
If Williams left the door slightly cracked on conference championship weekend with USC’s loss, Duggan might have managed to make it an interesting race with his own loss at TCU. He put together a truly heroic effort while playing through injuries against Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship Game, ultimately falling in overtime. Duggan won the hearts of millions of fans around the country, though. On the season he has gone 239-of-368 passing for 3,321 yards, with 30 touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s also added 404 yards and six touchdowns rushing.

Stetson Bennett IV, Quarterback, Georgia
The only Heisman Trophy finalist who isn’t coming off a loss in his last game, Bennett has been absolute nails all season for the reigning national champions. The veteran quarterback has taken a beating at times but managed to lead the Bulldogs to a perfect 13-0 record. He has gone 269-of-395 passing for 3,425 yards, with 20 touchdowns against six interceptions. He’s also rushed for 184 yards and seven touchdowns and Georgia is a strong favorite to repeat as national champions.
CJ Stroud, Quarterback, Ohio State
The Buckeyes reached the College Football Playoffs after the weekend’s upsets in conference title games, and Stroud has been a huge part of Ohio State’s success. Despite losing several key playmakers around him at various points this season, particularly late in the year, Stroud has helped pace the Buckeyes offensively. He has gone 235-of-355 passing for 3,340 yards, with 37 touchdowns versus six interceptions. Unlike the other finalists, he hasn’t been quite as big a threat on the ground, rushing for 74 yards this season.
Odds to win college football’s greatest individual award
Heading into Monday night’s announcement, the Heisman Trophy picture had already become a bit more clear, as USC quarterback Caleb Williams was a heavy favorite to win the award after a tremendous season and a thrilling performance in a win over Notre Dame in the regular-season finale.
BetMGM’s latest Heisman Trophy odds as of Monday listed only four remaining contenders:
Caleb Williams, USC: -2500
Max Duggan, TCU: – +2000
Stetson Bennett, Georgia: +3000
CJ Stroud, Ohio State: +5000
