Heisman Trophy Watch: On3 expert analysis after Week 14

The final week of the regular season is in the books, meaning for many Heisman Trophy candidates the 2024 campaign is a wrap and all the work that’s been put in is finalized at this point.
Throughout the season, experts at On3 have provided analysis and discussion on the race for the Heisman Trophy. Today we break down the latest following the weekend’s action.
Here’s a look at what players the experts from On3 have at the top of the rankings for the Heisman Trophy race, with their top three listed as well as analysis from each below.
Andy Staples
1. CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado
2. RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
3. QB Cam Ward, Miami
Travis Hunter: Let the Deion Sanders haters and the non-ball knowers stew in their own juices as they watch Hunter hoist the Heisman Trophy. Anyone who remotely understands the sport knows what Hunter has done this season is incredible and something we may never see again.
Ashton Jeanty: Jeanty had a spectacular season. But so did Bryce Love, Rashaad Penny, Melvin Gordon, Montee Ball and a few others who had similar seasons and didn’t win the Heisman.
Cam Ward: Ward was great most of the season, but even with the quarterback advantage, he didn’t have the superhuman numbers it would have taken to overtake Jeanty or Hunter.
Ari Wasserman
1. CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado
2. RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
3. RB Cam Skattebo, Arizona State
Travis Hunter: Colorado isn’t going to make the College Football Playoff this year, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Travis Hunter is the best player in college football. There seems to be a large faction of people who don’t think he’s worthy of the award, but that either means they don’t watch football or don’t like Deion Sanders. He’s the clear choice.
Ashton Jeanty: You can make the real case that Ashton Jeanty is one of the five best running backs to play in this sport in the College Football Playoff era. He is the engine that runs a Boise State team that is a win away from making the College Football Playoff. He’s an absolute stud.
Cam Skattebo: The senior running back at Arizona State has amassed 1,398 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. His numbers aren’t as crazy as Jeanty, but he is the glue that made one of the most inspiring stories of the season possible. He has a chance to keep adding to his statistics, but Skattebo is more than worthy of being on ballots.

Charles Power

1. CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado
2. RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
3. QB Cam Ward, Miami
Travis Hunter: He put a huge exclamation point on what will likely end up as a Heisman Trophy season, catching three touchdowns and picking off a pass in Colorado’s blowout win over Oklahoma State. Hunter has had a truly unique season in the modern college football climate as a 1,000+ yard receiver who doubles as a lockdown corner.
Ashton Jeanty: Were it not for Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty would be the clear choice for the Heisman. He’s put together the best running back season in college football over the last decade at the minimum and is the most valuable player on what will be a playoff team with a win over UNLV next week.
Cam Ward: He narrowly holds on to the third spot for me. Ward has had a great season and has been the difference in Miami reaching double-digit wins. With that said, there is an opportunity for Dillon Gabriel or Cam Skattebo to jump into the top three with big showings on Championship Weekend.
JD PicKell
1. CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado
2. RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
3. QB Cam Ward, Miami
Travis Hunter: Hunter racked up 100 yards and three receiving touchdowns and an interception on defense. Are you not entertained?!
Ashton Jeanty: Any other year Jeanty is the Heisman winner. Video game numbers again with over 200 yards on nearly 40 carries against Oregon State.
Cam Ward: Miami is no longer be a playoff team but Cam Ward is still a force of nature. Ward went for over 340 in a loss to Syracuse and should be in NYC.
