Report: Arizona transfer PF Henri Veesaar commits to North Carolina

Arizona transfer forward Henri Veesaar committed to North Carolina, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported. One of the best available big men in the transfer portal, he averaged 9.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season.
Veesaar mostly came off the bench at Arizona this past season, but he made a major impact. He averaged 20.8 minutes per game, which was a significant increase from his 7.1 minutes on average as a freshman. His biggest game of the year came in the penultimate regular season game against Arizona State when he had 22 points and eight rebounds.
Veesaar became one of the top power forwards in the portal after announcing his plans to transfer. Now, he’s heading to North Carolina to bolster the Tar Heels’ frontcourt.

After entering the portal, Henri Veesaar – a native of Estonia – became the No. 28 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. He is also the No. 11-ranked power forward to hit the open market so far this cycle.
Veesaar is the second transfer commitment for Hubert Davis and North Carolina this cycle. The Tar Heels also landed former West Virginia guard Jonathan Powell earlier this week to anchor the backcourt, he told On3’s Joe Tipton.

Powell averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game this past season at West Virginia. He also knocked down 64 three-pointers, which led all freshmen in the Big 12.
North Carolina was the last team in the 2025 NCAA Tournament field, making the First Four with a 22-13 overall record. The Tar Heels took down San Diego State in Dayton, setting up a first-round matchup against Ole Miss. UNC kept things close, but the Rebels ultimately came away with the victory, sending the Tar Heels home with a 23-14 record.
North Carolina also made a major change to its personnel staff. As Davis previously promised, the school brought in Jim Tanner to fill the role. A longtime NBA agent, his list of clients includes Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane, San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan, Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas and Cleveland Cavaliers forward Jarrett Allen.
