High school playoffs lead to an update and expansion of the 2026 On3 rankings
On Monday, On3 updated its class of 2026 player rankings and extended the list from 50 to 100 players. This is the first update for the 2026 class, after the initial ranking. The movement and additions are based on 1) in-person player evaluations from the high school season and 2) film study and intel gathered on prospects since the initial update.
Updated 2026 On3 100 player rankings
Since the last update in November, the On3 team has attended high school events and games across the country, With multiple showcases taking place every week(end), On3 has also collected streams and film to comb through the maximum exposure of countless events and players.
The ranking process is a continual and often fluid one. On3 starts ranking recruits after their freshman-year travel seasons, prior to their sophomore years of high school. Each recruit can look a lot different for our final ranking after their senior year championships and all-star games are played.
We have spent the last several weeks working on this 2026 update, so it will reflect the most accurate and current representation of the recruiting cycle. This work has resulted in 50 players making their debuts in the expanded On3 100. We have also continued collecting viewings and data on the previously ranked players, putting eyes on them since the previous update.
These prospects are completing their sophomore high school seasons. Our next class update for 2026 will come prior to the July live recruiting period.
The goal of rankings at On3 is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential. As we continue forward, a player’s performance on the court and their continued growth will outweigh the earlier rankings. Again, every player’s arc is different, and each ranking is a snapshot in time.
Here are some storylines from On3’s first update of the 2026 recruiting cycle.
Grading the 2026 On3 100
The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, and 80-89 grades are for three stars.
The first two prospects are five starts with a rating of 98 or higher. The players ranked No. 3 to 69 are classified as four-star prospects with grades from 90-97. The remainder of the 100 and position rankings are considered three-star prospects.
Our goal is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential, ultimately manifested by the NBA Draft. The goal of the ranking is not to assess who had the best high school career or who will be the best college player. This is why we will shoot to end each cycle with 14 five-star prospects, following the lead of the NBA Draft Lottery. Our vision, as we end each cycle is draft night.
Brandon McCoy is the new No. 1
For the initial 2026 ranking release, Napa (CA) Prolific Prep wing AJ Dybantsa was the No. 1 player in the class. Tyran Stokes, Dybantsa’s high school teammate was No. 2, and Brandon McCoy, a 6-foot-4 point guard from Belflower (CA) St. John Bosco sat at No. 3.
Soon after the 2026 rankings release, later in November, Dybantsa reclassified to take over the No. 1 spot in 2025, meaning that the first update of the class would have a new player at the top.

With the high school season coming to an end, the positional upside, along with the continued production of Brandon McCoy’s game became too hard to ignore. McCoy can be a slipper lead guard, having no issue getting to his spots in the half-court off the bounce. He has excellent length with a projectable frame. And even with his ability to score and create offense off a live dribble, he is also an aggressive defensive player.
His athleticism and quick-twitch allow him to guard on the ball, at the point of attack. His length and anticipation allow him to guard off the ball, in the passing lanes. Through 28 high school games, McCoy averaged 18.5 points this high school season, adding 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
Tyran Stokes is a physically developed wing, measuring 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds. He has good instincts and is a terror in transition, using his explosive athleticism to attack the rim. His Prolific Prep/CA team is 29-5 and ranked among the top ten teams in the country. Other players in the class like Caleb Holt of Huntsville (AL) Buckhorn High and Chatsworth (CA) Senior High Alijah Arenas, son of former NBA guard Gilbert Arenas are within striking distance of the top spot.
