How Ole Miss has proven itself as an SEC title contender in first two weeks
Ole Miss entered this season with sky high expectations and has so far looked the part through the first two weeks. The Rebels didn’t exactly play the toughest opponents in the world, but they dominated both contests from start to finish against Furman and Middle Tennessee.
Ole Miss won those games by a combined score of 128-3 as they have still yet to give up a touchdown this season. The offense has been electric as well with quarterback Jaxson Dart currently leading the FBS with 795 yards passing in addition to eight total touchdowns and one interception.
On3’s JD PicKell joined The Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday, where he explained why he likes the Rebels to make it to the SEC Championship.
“There’s a lot to be said for passing your tests the way you’re supposed to pass your tests,” he said. “It’s very easy to say, ‘Ah, they haven’t played anybody. They played Furman.’ I understand all that, but like, Notre Dame just lost to NIU. There’s no such thing as a bad, definitive win. I think the fact that they’re looking how they’re supposed to look this early in the season with that many transfers, I think the vibes should be high in Oxford and I’m a big believer in Jaxson Dart.

“With all the talk around they had them this offseason, to be able to look as dominant as they have, I think it’s a good sign and I think they’re gonna be exactly what we anticipated they would be. I think they’ll be in that SEC title game.”
The Rebels are in their fifth season under coach Lane Kiffin, who led them to an 11-win season in 2023. That marked the most wins in a single season for Ole Miss and has everyone excited about what’s in store this season.
With how dominant they’ve looked thus far, this year has potential to be even better. Fans will get to see the Rebels in action against some stronger competition when they face Wake Forest at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
