Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze has been taking some fire of late for his handling of the quarterback situation, both on the field and, namely, his comments off it. And that included from a former quarterback of his, Bo Wallace.

Wallace went on a fiery social media tirade over the weekend, unloading on Freeze for how he treated players current and former. On Wednesday on the SEC coaches teleconference, Freeze was asked about the outburst, and the Tigers head coach demurred.

“I’m not on social media anymore — well I have an account, but I don’t have it on my phone or anything,” Freeze said. “So I really don’t know everything and it’s probably good that I don’t. I did talk with Bo and love him as much as I ever have and wish nothing but best for him and really have.”

Freeze also said he understands that people are empowered to speak their mind on social media or elsewhere.

But he added, whatever Wallace said or feels, he still loves the former Ole Miss quarterback, and shared he was one of the most key players he ever recruited and coached.

“I mean people, if they feel certain ways because of certain things, certainly they have their right to say those things,” Freeze said. “But I’ll continue to say he’s probably the most important recruit I ever had at Ole Miss at that juncture of that program there and really proud of what he did while he was there and he’s doing a great job coaching high school ball now and again, I still love him just like I always have.”

Wallace unloaded on Freeze after he apparently threw his quarterbacks under the bus

Wallace went on a lengthy rant online.

“We’re approaching the point that he’s thrown so many QBs under the bus, that maybe no one wants to play for him?? His offense helped me tremendously put up numbers when I blew my shoulder out…But why is it someone else’s fault every time there’s a loss?? but when there’s a win I watch the press conferences just to count how many times the word “I” is used…appreciate what he did for me, my son wouldn’t be playing for him though,” Wallace vented.

“I got a story I’ll keep in my back pocket forever until it’s time. (Auburn staffers calling my phone incoming). But that dude has never helped me a day in his life. It was always only about getting a win for him so he could collect his extra 100 racks a win. If y’all knew the medications and shots I was taking to get that man his money you wouldn’t believe they would let you walk on a field like that. And with all that, I still feel the tires from the bus,” Wallace continued.

“(Bo’s drunk) nah he is as sober as could be watching tape, just tired of this dude always blaming players….EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.”

“Do your research on his offenses, excluding his time at Liberty, look at the interceptions every qb he’s had play for him throws, at some point when it happens over and over every year…You look in the mirror, not at the players to save face,” Wallace said.

Wallace put up prolific numbers during his time with Ole Miss. He led the Rebels to a 7-6 record in 2012, with a win in the Compass Bowl over Pittsburgh. He also led them to an 8-5 mark in 2013 with a victory over Georgia Tech in the Music City Bowl, and a 9-4 record in 2014 with a win in the Peach Bowl over Penn State.

Wallace threw for over 2,900 yards in three straight seasons in Oxford, finishing his career there with 9,534 passing yards, while tossing in 62 total touchdowns with 41 interceptions. As a runner, he finished with 944 total rushing yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground.
