Illinois guard Tre White has committed to Kansas out of the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He does so after spending just one season with the Fighting Illini.

A 6-foot-7 player with some real length, White was on his third school during the 2024-25 season. He initially started his career at USC in 2022-23, before he headed to Louisville for the 2023-24 campaign. His stop at Illinois wasn’t quite as statistically productive as his Louisville stint in terms of the averages. But his shooting percentages did improve.

White averaged 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season for the Fighting Illini. He did that while starting in 31 of the 32 games he appeared in. He averaged 23.4 minutes per contest.

For his size, White was a pretty good shooter from the perimeter. He converted 3-pointers at a 32.9% clip, the highest of his career. White also turned in a career-best free-throw percentage, going 82.4% from the charity stripe. He got to the line 102 times.

All that to say Tre White should be able to help make up for some departures that Kansas has had in recent days. There have been a few.

Kansas lands Jayden Dawson

In addition to White, Kansas also landed the commitment of Loyola Chicago transfer guard Jayden Dawson. He committed to Kansas on Friday night. Dawson was a second team All-Atlantic 10 selection while leading the Ramblers to the NIT semifinals.

Dawson put together a career year on the Northside as a junior, starting all 32 games in which he appeared. He averaged 13.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting 41% from the field.

On3’s Nick Schultz also contributed to this report.
