Indiana shooting guard Harun Zrno has decommitted from the Hoosiers. He previously committed to the program in January. Per On3’s Joe Tipton, Zrno is already gaining interest from programs like Maryland and Miami.

His decommitment comes amid a coaching change in Bloomington. Former West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries was introduced as the program’s head coach on Wednesday after the program parted ways with Mike Woodson at the conclusion of the Hoosiers’ 2024-25 season.

DeVries only spent one season at West Virginia. The Mountaineers finished with a 19-13 overall record and a 10-10 mark in conference play this season. Under his leadership, WVU burst out the starting gates this season, picking up wins over Gonzaga and Arizona before December.

However, disaster struck when Tucker DeVries, Darian’s son, was forced to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery. Tucker DeVries has since entered the NCAA transfer portal. After finishing the season 19-13 following a second-round exit from the Big 12 Conference Tournament, they did not make the NCAA Tournament.

Darian DeVries explains plan to build Indiana roster during first season

With players like Zrno choosing to enter the NCAA transfer portal amid his program’s coaching change, DeVries knows he will have to build his roster from the ground up. While the portal can be a double-edged sword for programs in this position, he plans to use it to the Hoosiers’ advantage next season. However, his plan will shift after a couple of seasons.

“In our ideal world we would build it from the high school up,” DeVries said during his introductory press conference on Wednesday. “This first year, that’s not possible. We’re going to have to fill some holes in the roster through the portal, and then your hope is in each year, you might lose a guy or two.

“Your hope is they love it here so much that nobody ever wants to leave here, and then you replace a few guys from the portal, continue to build through the high school, hopefully as a sophomore. Then you can keep two or three high school kids and get two or three freshmen, and now over the course of time you’re going to be able to build some consistency within your roster.”
