North Carolina is in position to be more at full strength from a roster standpoint for its game against Notre Dame on Saturday.

Star wide receiver Josh Downs, who has missed the last two games with a lower body injury, is on track to being available for the game against the Fighting Irish, sources tell On3 Sports.

The junior has been working back from a lower body he suffered during UNC’s Week 0 win over Florida A&M, which he finished with nine catches, 78 yards and two touchdowns.

Downs broke UNC single-season records last season with 101 catches and 1,335 receiving yards. The catch total led the ACC and ranked fifth nationally. The yardage ranked second in the conference and 11th nationally. He was also third nationally in yards after the catch with 754 and had a touchdown catch in eight straight games at one point, one shy of the program record set by Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice in 1947 and ’48.

He had 10 catches for 142 yards during the Tar Heels’ 44-34 loss to Notre Dame last season.

In addition to Downs, it also continues to look very much possible that North Carolina’s second-leading receiver from last season, Antoine Green, could make his season debut vs. Notre Dame, per sources.

Green, who tallied 31 catches for 612 yards last year, has missed UNC’s first three games due to a preseason collarbone injury.

North Carolina, which improved to 3-0 with a 35-28 win over Georgia State Sept. 10, enters the matchup against the 1-2 Fighting Irish as a one-point underdog. The Tar Heels are coming off a bye week.
