Lincoln (Neb.) North Star three-star safety Tyrell Chatman has committed to Iowa State, he announced on Monday evening.

He chose the Cyclones over Kansas State and others. Chatman was formerly committed to Northern Illinois.

Chatman is the No. 935 overall prospect and No. 92 safety in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 8 player in Nebraska.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is the latest Cornhusker State to pledge to head coach Matt Campbell and ISU. The Cyclones now have five Nebraska natives in their class.

Omaha Millard South three-star athlete Amarion Jackson is the top-ranked commit in the mix to date, as he checks in as the No. 515 prospect and No. 2 player in the state. Omaha Central three-star safety Kaprice Keith, Elkhorn North three-star linebacker Barry Fries, Sidney three-star LB Keian Kaiser and now Chatman are also in the mix.

More on Iowa State Recruiting

With the addition of Chatman, Iowa State now has 11 commits in its 2026 class, which ranks No. 39 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. The Cyclones’ 2025 class ranked just No. 58 nationally.

Fort Collins (Colo.) three-star offensive tackle Mason Bandhauer is one of two O-linemen in the class to date, alongside Prior Lake (Minn.) OT Ethan Beckman. A pair of Buckeye State prospects — Lakewood St. Edward three-star safety Brayden Thomas and Akron Walsh Jesuit three-star wide receiver Milan Parris — add to the pledge list.

Other commits for Campbell and Co. thus far include Ames (Iowa) three-star WR Jeffry Roberts and Minnetonka (Minn.) three-star athlete Caleb Francois.

Last cycle, Iowa State signed 20 high school prospects. Algona (Iowa) four-star quarterback Alex Manske headlined the signees, finishing as On3’s No. 55 overall recruit and No. 8 QB in the nation.
