Julian Humphrey is a man of his word. When he committed to Florida back on May 27, Humphrey made a point of assurance that he was going to take visits to every school that was in his final group.

“You can only do this one time,” Humphrey said.

The Clear Lake High School star (Texas) saw in-state school Texas A&M on Wednesday before hoping on a plane and flying to Georgia.

Humphrey made the short drive from Atlanta to Athens to check in on Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs have made a recent push for the cornerback from Houston. Georgia offered Humphrey on July 14.

Defensive backfield an area of need for Georgia

Humphrey’s first trip to Athens came with some intrigue. Smart and staff have pitched Humphrey like a priority in the 2022 class. The Bulldogs currently have only one cornerback committed in the class of 2022.

Marquis Groves-Killebrew is the only cornerback committed to Georgia. As a result, the Bulldogs have seemingly homed in a few cornerback targets that could help them early in their careers in Athens.

“Georgia, coach Kirby (Smart) told me they wanted me up here,” Humphrey said. “I had to come up. They’ve been telling me that they’re losing a bunch of defensive backs. They were telling me that I could play a big part over here. They really develop defensive backs over here. The proof is in the pudding.”

Humphrey was impressed by the defensive back pedigree at Georgia under Smart.

“Several guys in the NFL have been here and were developed by these coaches,” Humphrey said. “This is a great place to be. Overall, from the coaches to the players it’s just been cool with everyone keeping it real. I like that.”

The recent history of defensive back players speaks for itself without a recruit stepping on campus. Humphrey took note of some of the small things.

The warm welcome he received once he arrived was something that jumped off the screen initially during the visit.

“It was amazing, they gave me a big entrance and a warm welcome,” Humphrey said. “We went through the entire facility, stadium and the academic buildings. We were watching their players workout and I was able to catch on to the defense they were running. After that we just chopped it and talked about how many DBs they’ve lost and how many they’re going to have to get back. It was amazing overall.”

Humphrey still committed but has things to consider before National Signing Day

Humphrey is committed to Florida.

He will still have a bit of thinking to do over the next few months.

“It’s going to be a hard decision,” Humphrey said. “There’s going to be a lot of thinking about making sure that I’m going to the right school. There will also be a whole bunch of praying… At the end of the day, I’ve got to go to a school that’s best for me. I want a school that’s going to make me the best athlete and student I can be.”

Humphrey was in a car the next morning heading to Gainesville, Florida to join take in Florida as they host their Friday Night Lights event.
