Coveted OL Isaac Spike Sowells commits to NC State
Louisville (Ky.) Male offensive lineman Isaac Spike Sowells announced his commitment to head coach Dave Doeren and NC State on Thursday evening.
The 6-foot-2, 292-pound Sowells chose the Wolfpack over his other finalists in Kentucky and South Carolina.
Sowells is one of the top center prospects in the country and boasts a 10.5 inch hand, 83-inch wing and 35-inch arms.
“The love the staff gave me was a huge factor,” Sowells said. Future position coach Garett Tujague said.
“I have belief in Coach Tujague and his ability to develop the center position. They never negatively recruited against any other program and never tried to buy my commitment! They showed me true compassion throughout my recruitment and made it know I was there No. 1 guy.”

NC State landing several coveted targets
Sowells becomes commit No. 15 for Doeren in the 2025 class. He was one of their most coveted targets alongside guys like receiver Jerel Boulder and running back Kentrell Rinehart.
“Their ability to bring in skill talent,” Sowells said of what else caught his eye. “Now they just need guys up front.”
Gibbs joins offensive lineman Michael Gibbs as the two point of attack players in the fold.
Sowells loves the way Doeren has built the program.
“His ability to connect with his guys,” Sowells said. “Everybody saw how he called out Steve Smith’s comments (Smith said NC State fans were waiting for basketball season during an appearance on College GameDay prior to the Clemson game. Doeren responded “Tell Steve Smith in the studio that this ain’t a basketball school. He can kiss my ass.’) about his team and a coach like that is one you wanna play hard for.”
NC State got the last official visit from Sowells the weekend of June 21. Louisville and Miami were two others he strongly considered earlier in the process.
