5-star Isiah Harwell talks early recruitment and visits
Isiah Harwell debuted at No. 3 in the 2025 On3 50. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 12.6 points and made 1.2 threes per game in July for the Utah Prospects on the Adidas 3SSB 17u Circuit.
“I’m a three-level scorer,” Harwell told On3. “I feel like I can play defense too, so I feel like I’m like a two-way guard. Playing 17u was good for me. It helped me because the competition was better, and it just pushed me more. I like picking parts from like a lot of different players. There are a whole bunch of people and just try to add them all and see what I can do.”
Harwell was invited to participate in the 2022 USA Basketball October Junior National Team Minicamp. The five-star is one of only 19 players flown out to Colorado Springs to compete.
“I want to show everyone this weekend that I am better than them,” Harwell said.
This summer, the shooting guard transferred to Mount Pleasant (UT) Wasatch Academy to play on the NIBC. On3 caught up with Isiah Harwell at the USA Basketball training camp to talk about this recruitment.
“Most recently, I’ve been offered by UNC,” Harwell said. “Florida State, St. John’s, and Mississippi State. I’ve taken an unofficial visit to UNC,”
Harwell talks UNC
It’s just like a loving program,” Harwell said. Everybody is so welcoming. It feels like it’s just like a welcome program. When that offer came in, I was just excited cause that was like my dream school growing up, so I was just lost for words.
“It’s just the way they played and just their rivalry with Duke. My two older brothers had a thing for Duke, so I was all for UNC.”

“I don’t have any visits planned yet,” Harwell said. “But I want to go see more from Texas Tech and Gonzaga.”
Gonzaga: “They have not offered yet, they say they will when I get on campus. They’ve been talking to me and it’s Gonzaga, I want to see more.”
Texas Tech: “I like the way they play together. The way they defend and like how their coach holds each player accountable.
On3’s take
Isiah Harwell is a complete shooting guard prospect. At 6-foot-5, he has good length and a strong lower body. Harwell plays at a great pace, he does not play rushed and seems to make great decisions with the ball in his hands. Harwell has good burst when attacking the basket, getting on the rim in the half-court. Solid handle, frame, skill, and IQ, there is a lot to like about the five-star. The shooting guard has deep range and confidence to score it when given space. His dad, Ron Harwell, averaged 14.5 a game at Idaho State in the mid-90s.
