5-star Isiah Harwell talks recruitment and visits
Isiah Harwell is the No. 3 player in the 2025 On3 50. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard played up two age groups this summer with the Utah Prospects on the Adidas 3SSB 17u Circuit. Harwell averaged 12.6 points per game.
“I’m a three-level scorer,” Harwell told On3. “I play both ways, offense, and defense. I try to work hard on the defensive end, and that gets everything else going. I’ll try to take a little bit from everybody, but I would say I watch a lot of Jayson Tatum and how he plays on both ends. I think just how he plays represents me.”
Harwell is starting for Pleasant Grove (UT) Wasatch Academy, which is the No. 1 ranked team on the NIBC. On3 caught up with Isiah Harwell recently to talk about his recruitment.
“I took an unofficial visit to North Carolina and Duke; those are the only two I’ve taken so far,” Harwell said. “I’m looking to take one to Kansas at the end of the year.”
Harwell talks recruitment
UNC: “They’re cool people there. I saw how they really got along as a team. You can’t really explain what it’s like there; the experience is something you have to have on your own. At the practice, I saw how Coach (Hubert) Davis coaches and how he let his players run.”
Kansas: “They are a hard playing team; they really get after it. They like how I play both ways; I’m a two-way player and can guard almost every position.”

Analyst calls out Kentucky fans
Duke: “Duke hasn’t offered yet, but their campus is huge. I like the buildings, how they looked. They looked pretty cool. I didn’t get to see a practice while I was there.”
“I’m hearing from Gonzaga, Kentucky, and Duke, too,” Harwell said. “They haven’t offered me yet, but they might be close.”
In Harwell’s words
“I’m going to look closely at how the coach and the coaches get along with the players, ” Harwell said. “That’s pretty much going to be it. I’m not going to look at playing on the ball or off the ball, and I think I can play in any type of system.
“My dad, Ron Harwell, played D-I at Idaho State.”
*editor’s note – Ron Harwell graduated from Idaho State in 1996-97. In his senior season, he was seventh in the Big Sky in scoring at 14.5 per game.
Scouting report
Isiah Harwell is a complete shooting guard prospect. At 6-foot-5, he has good length and a strong lower body. Harwell plays at a great pace; he does not play rushed and seems to make great decisions with the ball in his hands. Harwell has good burst when attacking the basket, getting on the rim in the half-court. Solid handle, frame, skill, and IQ, there is a lot to like about the five-star. The shooting guard has deep range and confidence to score it when given space. His dad, Ron Harwell, averaged 14.5 a game at Idaho State in the mid-90s.
