Jackson State head coach and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders has had his name circulating as a candidate for various head coaching jobs that have recently opened up across the nation. Sanders made things more interesting Thursday, when he reposted an Instagram story from former NFL player Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones relating to Sanders potentially becoming Cincinnati‘s next head coach.

The post shows a fan at Cincinnati’s basketball game sporting a shirt with Sanders on it sporting Bearcats threads with a part of one of his famous quotes, “It’s gonna be a lot of zeroes in that contract. You gonna think it’s alphabet soup or something, all those zeroes in there.”

Cincinnati is still searching for Luke Fickell’s replacement, as he took the head coaching job at Wisconsin, but there are no reports of them offering or interviewing Sanders for the job. Sanders does have a connection to Cincinnati, as he spent the 1997 season on the Cincinnati Reds and returned to them for 29 games in 2001.

Colorado offered Sanders their head coaching job last Sunday, and his name has been tied to the USF head coaching vacancy as well, as many will be waiting for Sanders to make a decision regarding his future as a head coach soon.

Deion Sanders admits interest in coaching for a Power 5 program

While speaking with CBS in an interview, Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders expressed interest in taking over a Power 5 program. The NFL legend was candid when asked about a hypothetical question about a school offering him their coaching job — stating that he would be foolish not to entertain the offer.

During a sit-down interview with 60 MinutesSanders admitted that he would be interested in taking over for a big-name program after his success at Jackson State. Sanders has brought his superstar attitude and flair to the ranks of college football as a coach, and his name has been mentioned many times as a potential target for schools looking to replace coaches.

“What happens when a Power 5 school says ‘give us a number — we’ll make it work?’”

“I’m gonna have to entertain it. Yes. I’m gonna have to entertain it. Straight up. I’d be a fool not to,” said Sanders.

In his third year with the Tigers, Sanders has opened the season with a 5-0 record — bringing his career coaching record to 20-5 overall.

Last season the Tigers finished with an 11-2 record and a perfect 9-0 record in SWAC play, earning a bowl game appearance in the Celebration Bowl against the MEAC’s South Carolina State Bulldogs.
