Jacob Wilkins has burst on the scene in a big way this high school season. The 6-foot-7 sophomore forward from Lilburn (GA) Parkview high says he is averaging 19 points, five rebounds, and two assists per game.

“I’d describe myself as a three-level scorer,” Wilkins told On3. “I feel like I shoot the three ball well, I can knock down the mid-range, and I can play above the rim. I’m also a good shot blocker. I watch a lot of Brandon Ingram; his ball handling and his ability to take his defender off the dribble is what I love about his game.”

Wilkins is the son of NBA Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins. On3 talked with Jacob Wilkins recently to talk about his recruitment.

Wilkins talks recruitment

“I’ve recently received my first two offers, Alabama and Georgia,” Wilkins said. “I’ve visited Georgia before, but both Georgia and Alabama are trying to get me to a game in February; no date yet.”

Georgia: “I know their program is good, and they put players in good situations. They have good off the court relationships with their players. They like how my skillset fits what they’re trying to do and how I can play inside and out.

“I saw how hard the team went in practice; that was memorable for me. They practiced like it was their last time playing.”

Alabama: “I’ve watched Alabama their past couple of games. They have a great basketball team, and they play winning basketball. They’ve compared me to their freshman, Brandon Miller. They like how I can handle the ball and shoot off the bounce.”

“I’ve seen highlights of my dad for sure,” Wilkins said. “We both can jump out of the gym and are threats in transition. He’s helped me focus on making sure everything I do is one hundred percent. There was some pressure to live up to the Wilkins name when I was younger, but as I got older, I’ve gotten used to it.”

In his words

“I just want to be a part of a program that puts me in the right spots and the right situations so I can strive as a player,” Wilkins said.
