Report: Jake Spavital is out as Texas State head football coach after four seasons
The Texas State Bobcats are moving on from fourth-year head coach Jake Spavital, according to Bruce Feldman on Sunday. Spavital coached the Bobcats to 4-8 this season and 13-35 over his four years. Texas State was the former offensive coordinator’s first DI head coaching job.
In the two years prior to Texas State, Spavital was the offensive coordinator for West Virginia. With an offense that averaged 518 yards per game, he helped lead the Mountaineers to a pair of bowl games, as well as a top-25 finish in both major polls in 2018.
Prior to his time in West Virginia, Spavital coached under current TCU head coach Sonny Dykes at Cal. He took over as interim head coach after Dykes’ exit in 2017.
