Jalen Milroe: 'There's never a dull moment with coach DeBoer'
Football is about to begin and the long journey toward a potential repeat College Football Playoff appearance is about to begin for Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. For the Crimson Tide, much will come down to how well coach Kalen DeBoer can manage the program’s transition.
Nick Saban is gone and with him a whole lot of winning. But perhaps not the blueprint for doing so.
That’s the hope in Tuscaloosa, where players have been getting more and more familiar with the new head coach. He’s made quite the favorable impression.
“I can just credit him for how great of a person he is,” Milroe said. “Just the likeability he has in the whole facility and when he’s around. There’s never a dull moment with coach DeBoer, and I love that about him.”

Kalen DeBoer, like Saban, has won everywhere he’s been. Really quickly, at that.
Even so, DeBoer has communicated to his players that he knows things might take a little time to click. He’s simply there to speed along that process as much as humanly possible.
“He acknowledges that it’s a work in progress,” Milroe said. “So it’s always critique in private, praise in public. And that’s something that he does a really good job at.”
Kalen DeBoer is also coming off a College Football Playoff appearance last season. He knows how to get there, perhaps even with a less talented team than the Alabama squad he’ll field this fall.

All the pieces remain in place for the Crimson Tide to be dominant. The expectations are to be just that.
Yet there’s surprisingly little tension building up around the program. Or, rather, if there is, it’s hard to notice. Players sure aren’t ahead of the season opener.
“I can just say that I’m really having a lot of fun,” Milroe said. “The game of football is fun, just being around him. And it’s something that’s emphasized with the whole coaching staff. You’ve got to always start with the top of the pinnacle, which is coach DeBoer. But also the coaching staff that he has with us has been awesome.
“So I would just say, man, super excited for what is in store with our football team and also being led by coach DeBoer, because it’s been a fun process.”
