4-star Jalen Shelley is looking to start taking official visits
Jalen Shelley is the No. 27 player in the 2024 On3 150. The 6-foot-8 wing has been on a consistent rise since, averaging 13.8 points and shot 50 percent from three with the Pro Skills program during Nike’s 16u Peach Jam.
“I’ve improved my shooting and my ball handling, becoming a better leader,” Shelley told On3. “I watch a lot of taller guards, like Cade Cunningham and Ben Simmons. I’m trying to become a bigger guard with my skill set, being able to play one through four on both ends.”
On3 caught up with Jalen Shelley after a 33-point, 11-rebound performance at last week’s Tarkanian Classic. We talked about visits and got an update on his recruitment.
“I took unofficial visits to Houston and Arkansas,” Shelley said. “I’m trying to plan a visit to Texas now, and I like LSU too.”
Shelley talks visits
Houston: “I really enjoyed both Coach Sampsons. The team had a real family-type bond throughout the whole group. The team, you could see they had good chemistry. They are long and really athletic, and their offense is just freelance; he lets his guys play.”
Arkansas: “They have a pro-level organization right now. Everything is so detailed out, each step of practice is marked out. I feel like it’s really high level. They say they like my size and versatility, my ability to handle the ball, and my length on the other end.”

Shelley talks recruiting
Texas: “Even with what is going on, they get guys to the next level. It’s a big program, and they have a good history, and it’s close to home. I want to get over there and see it.”
LSU: “I feel like I’m a good fit with LSU. They love big guards, and the way they play, I feel like I’d be a good fit with what they do. The coaches really like me, and they’re still figuring everything out, but I really like how they check in on me. We are building a good little connection there.”
“I hear from Auburn and Michigan State a good bit, too,” Shelley said, “They haven’t offered yet.”
In his words
“I’ll be looking at a school for a school that can develop me,” Shelley said. “Someone who can just get me better as a player and get me to the next level. I’ll look at the system and how the programs best look to use me. How they put me in the right place to make the right plays.”
