Jameis Winston didn’t have an outright pick for the Heisman Trophy this season, but he named his three best players he wanted to see in New York.

He got two of them right: Travis Hunter (the winner) and Cam Ward. He also put Shedeur Sanders on his list.

While he didn’t necessarily vote for the winner, Winston said those three players were the most deserving of the Heisman.

“Who did I vote for? Well, I voted for Shedeur,” Winston began on Pardon My Take. “I voted for Travis and I voted for Cam … no order. But I know Shedeur … what he has encompassed throughout his whole collegiate career. And it’s similar to Bo (Nix), because I got a chance to be in the same state as Bo and see him show up. But we all got to witness Shedeur’s  maturation process, even when Deion was coaching the high school team in Dallas, like they had a TV show back then.

Jameis Winston had intriguing take on Heisman

“Because, I mean, I know Prime Time is some of y’all favorite athletes out there. So just all he encompassed as, like, his whole collegiate career. We got to see it, and he never played a bad game. All he did was ball. He had a few losses here and there, but he balled out for the most part. So I had to make sure that he got him a trip up there to New York. I don’t know if he did, but I’m glad Travis won, I’m glad Cam Ward had the year he (did). I just wish he would have (gone) to Florida State.”

Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty was the other finalist for the Heisman this year, behind Hunter. Sanders was not a finalist in New York, but received buzz this season.

Due to his two-way prowess, Hunter won by excelling at wide receiver and defensive back, being one of the best in the country at both positions.

Although Winston didn’t pick an exact winner, he’ll welcome Hunter into the Heisman fraternity.

Hunter caught 92 passes for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns as one of the top receivers in all of college football. Then, defensively, he had 32 tackles, 11 deflections, four interceptions, and a forced fumble at corner.

All of the above mentioned players are off to the NFL so their careers will be closely watched. But it was interesting to see Winston gives Sanders a little more love than others.
