4-star DL JaReylan McCoy sets official visit schedule as Texas enters the mix

Texas is the new addition to Tupelo (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy’s top five, as the Longhorns are now near the top of the pack in place of Texas A&M.
Steve Sarkisian and Co. have already locked in an official visit with the 6-foot-6.5, 245-pounder, too. McCoy tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he’ll be in Austin for the weekend of June 13. Texas now joins an OV schedule that also includes Auburn (May 16), Florida (May 30), Ole Miss (June 6) and LSU (June 20).
McCoy backed off a commitment to LSU on Feb. 3, just a month after he originally pledged. Ole Miss has since picked the momentum in his recruitment — per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine — and looked to be on the verge of landing his pledge, but he’s now taking his visits and continues to work through his process.
Florida is the latest to get McCoy on campus. He told On3’s Kieth Niebuhr after his trip to Gainesville that he’s locked in a commitment date for July 10, with the Gators and LSU among those standing out right now.
Up next for McCoy are visits to Ole Miss and Texas later this month. The SEC is vying for the blue-chipper and his upcoming trips will be crucial in helping come to a decision. McCoy previously told On3 that his commitment to LSU just came a little too early and he needs to find the relationships that’ll suit him the best at the next level.

“I just need to think about things a little more,” McCoy told Chad Simmons upon decommitting. “LSU is a great school and I love coach Peoples, so LSU is still in the mix, but I just wanted to open things back up.”
“Relationships and the people I am around is what I am looking for,” he said. “I want to be around great people. Building close relationships is key in my decision.”
McCoy is now the No. 146 overall prospect and No. 13 DL in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 7 player in Mississippi.
JaReylan McCoy Scouting Summary
On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this of McCoy as a prospect:
“Physically gifted defensive lineman with a huge frame and plus athleticism as a high school underclassman. has measured in over 6-foot-6.5 and close to 250 pounds prior to his sophomore season. Owns plus length for the position with 34.25-inch arms. Registers as a top athlete, running a 4.89 second 40-yard dash at Student Sports’ All-22 camp. Lines up as a big defensive end for his high school. Physical gifts are readily apparent on Friday nights. Flashes good speed and functional movement skills. Closes to make some impressive plays. Has upside as a run defender, using his big frame to body offensive linemen. Still early in his development. Likely not done growing and could see his frame maxing out at north of 300 pounds. Size and athleticism make him one of the early top defensive linemen in the 2026 cycle.”
