Jaxson Dart, Austin Simmons combine for Ole Miss' single-game passing record
Ole Miss put up numbers in their blowout and shutout of an opener against Furman. That includes an all-time passing outing from a pair of their quarterbacks on Saturday.
Jaxson Dart and Austin Simmons combined for a total of 529 passing yards yesterday for the Rebels in the 76-0 win against the Paladins. With that, the duo set a new single-game mark for pass yardage in school history.
Dart led the way with most of that in what was a career day for him in the season debut. He finished with 418 yards and five touchdowns on a completion rate of 81.5%. The scores and percentage were the best of his four seasons now in college so far with the yardage being the second-most. He also rushed for an additional score.

If that’s not enough, all of that came in the opening half with Ole Miss up by 52 at the break. Dart was done for the night after that with Simmons coming in following the break.
From there, Simmons went on to make his collegiate debut as a redshirt freshman. It started about as well as it could have with his first-ever pass going for his one touchdown in the game. He’d then play into the fourth quarter with him going 7/16 for 111 yards. He did that before Walker Howard then checked in behind him to close the game.
Those numbers benefitted 10 different pass-catchers for the Rebels. Nine finished with two or more receptions while five caught touchdowns on the night. That included the leader in receiving in the game with Tre Harris catching eight balls for 179 yards and a pair of scores.

The opener went about as well as it possibly could have for Ole Miss yesterday. That was certainly the case offensively for the Rebels, especially with this total passing performance by both Dart and Simmons.
Ole Miss honors Monte Kiffin with helmet decal vs. Furman
Lane Kiffin enters this season without the presence of his father, Monte Kiffin, who died in July. The Rebels made sure the late legend was repped on the field, though, last night inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
On the back of the Ole Miss helmets in the opener was a simple decal in an outline of Monte Kiffin in red splashed over the blue helmet. The image selected captured Kiffin during a practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006.
It’s unknown if the Rebels will wear the decals for just Saturday’s game or the duration of the season.
