Virginia Tech is set to be without linebacker Jayden McDonald against Old Dominion, Brent Pry announced. He suffered an injury and will not be able to go.

McDonald is in his fourth season at Virginia Tech and coming off a career year in 2023. He totaled 30 tackles as he cemented himself as a key piece of the Hokies defense.

Pry didn’t say what Jayden McDonald’s injury was, but he confirmed the star linebacker won’t be able to play on Saturday. He is undergoing further evaluation.

“McDonald has sustained an injury,” Pry said. “He’s being evaluated now. We’ll see how long that takes, but he won’t be available this weekend.”

Now, Virginia Tech will hit the road to take on Old Dominion for a third straight season. The Monarchs defeated the Hokies in Pry’s first season, but Virginia Tech got revenge last season with a 36-17 victory in Blacksburg.

Now, the Hokies will hit the road, and Pry knows it’s not easy to win away from home. However, he wants his team to prepare itself for the trip and be ready to get a victory under the lights.

“We’ve got to be the type of team that can go to Old Dominion and win a football game,” Pry said. “That’s who we need to be. And we’ll prepare all week that way. It’s a challenge to win on the road, period. It’s a challenge to win a night game on the road. And it’s a challenge to win against a school in your own state on the road. So there’s a lot at play there for us, a lot of motivation to have a great week and go play well.”
