Ole Miss transfer TE Jayvontay Conner commits to East Carolina
Ole Miss transfer tight end Jayvontay Conner announced his commitment to East Carolina Friday night. He is coming off his freshman season with the Rebels.
Conner appeared in three games during his time in Oxford, totaling one catch for seven yards on offense before hitting the portal in November. He will have four years of eligibility remaining after taking a redshirt.
Conner played high school football at Kernersville (N.C.) East Forsyth, where he was a three-star recruit. He was the No. 742 overall prospect and No. 42 TE in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Conner is one of 22 players to transfer out of Ole Miss after the 2023 season, but the Rebels have been one of the biggest winners in the portal this cycle. Lane Kiffin and Co. currently rank No. 3 in the On3 Team Transfer Portal Index behind Colorado and Louisville with 20 commitments. The crew of newcomers is headlined by former Texas A&M defensive lineman Walter Nolen – the No. 2 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

All told, Ole Miss is getting ready to bring in three of the top 25 overall transfers as part of its portal haul. The group includes former Florida EDGE Princely Umanmielen and former South Carolina wide receiver Juice Wells, who came in as the No. 12 and No. 21 overall players, respectively, in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.
Spring transfer portal window officially closed
The transfer portal window officially closed this week after two windows – a 30-day window in the fall, when Jayvontay Conner entered his name, and another 15-day window in April. The portal tool launched in 2018 to allow athletes to be more involved in the process of transferring. Athletes must notify institutions of their intent to transfer. Each school’s compliance team had 48 hours to put a name into the portal.
After an athlete is officially in the portal, there is no rush on making a decision as long as they are properly enrolled at a new institution in time for fall camp. Commitments did not have to be made during the 15-day window.
