Jedd Fisch - Andy Staples On3

Long before Jedd Fisch pulled off a massive overhaul of Arizona’s roster, he was a University of Florida student with a roommate who was obsessed with evaluating football players. In April 1995, Fisch and his roommate made plans to watch the NFL draft. Fisch couldn’t help but laugh when his roommate arrived with a box of draft prep materials.

Fisch laughed even harder when the New York Jets’ selection of Kyle Brady sent his roommate over the edge.

“What are you doing?” Fisch asked his roommate.

“I’m going to be an NFL GM,” Fisch’s roommate said.

“Yeah, right.” Fisch replied.

“Why, what are you going to be?” The roommate fired back.

“I’m going to be a college or NFL head coach,” Fisch said.

Fisch has been a coordinator for multiple NFL teams, and he’s now a college head coach. How did Fisch’s roommate do on his prediction?

Howie Roseman became the general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010. He’s put together a Super Bowl champ and last season’s NFC champions. So maybe he was onto something when he went ballistic over the Jets taking a tight end in the first round.

In a wide-ranging interview, Fisch explains how he and Roseman plotted to take over the football world and how leaving notes on Steve Spurrier’s car got Fisch a chance to climb the coaching ladder. Fisch also explains how he transformed Arizona’s roster so quickly and how previous jobs that required him to recruit Southern California and South Florida have positioned him well to bring both coasts together on his roster as his team moves from the Pac-12 to the Big 12.
